Brendan 'Clark' Lehman

Position: President | Président

I am beginning my second year in the Biology M.Sc.program, concentrating in Neuroscience. Not being a Sudbury native but having completed my undergraduate degree here at Laurentian, I have grown akin to the community of the university as well as that of the greater city. Active involvement in the greater community, be it participation in political and academic events, to hosting shows on campus community radio, to volunteering with the occasions of our very own GSA, is a mentality I feel strongly about continuing and spreading through all aspects of student life. It is my hope to enthusiastically apply this approach academically and otherwise across campus to fairly and justly represent every graduate student; to hold their university accountable, not being afraid to stand up and make changes when necessary. However, a strong community is not maintained without a measure of diligence, passion, and professionalism; something certainly not overlooked, and undoubtedly something prepared for. As we are all members of this community, we should all feel engaged within it. This is something I hope to facilitate throughout the year to make the experience of being a graduate student at Laurentian University more than memorable.

Please do not hesitate to email me at bx_lehman@laurentian.ca if you have and comments or concerns.

Arthur Gron

Position: Vice-President | Vice-président

I obtained my undergraduate sociology degree from the University of Toronto, and a further B. Ed from Queen’s. Currently I’m pursuing my MA in Applied Sociology, examining the relationship between self-surveillance, hyper quantification and mobile phone use. I’ve previously worked conducting a social research study at The Gatehouse and have been the managing editor of Georgian Bay Today.  As V.P. it is my intention to collaborate with other GSAs around the province or even further afield. As graduate students we should take the opportunity to build bridges between departments and institutions. Being on the forefront of our respected fields means challenging ourselves to seek fruitful partnerships.

Menal Mehari

Position: Secretary | Secrétaire

I am entering my second year in the Applied Social Research Program and my research interests include looking at how the internet has shaped Canada’s sex-trade and how sex workers maintain their safety during the course of their work. I did my undergraduate degree in Law and Society at York University, and spent my first year at Laurentian getting to know my way around the school, and as I’m now entering into my second year, I truly want to be more involved and engaged with the Laurentian community. I’m an organized individual therefore I am more than capable when it comes to recording minutes to maintaining GSA activities. I also ran for the position of president of CUPE 5011 for the 2012/2013 year, for the same reasons. With than said, I’m a sociable person, I enjoy meeting new people, and I’m excited to have the chance to be part of such an amazing community. Cheers!
